Jennie’s ‘Like Jennie’ Takes Global Music Charts by Storm

Jennie’s first solo album ‘Ruby’ and its title track ‘Like Jennie’ are commanding attention. Despite its provocative self-love lyrics, ‘Like Jennie’ is resonating well with audiences. Following pre-releases like ‘Mantra,’ Jennie proves she’s a solo powerhouse.

The track is holding top positions on major South Korean music sites. It entered Spotify’s ‘Daily Top Songs Global’ chart at 12 and climbed to 7. It’s the first track by a female artist this year to top Korea’s Apple Music ‘Top Songs’ chart.

Since its release on March 7, ‘Ruby’ sold 661,130 copies in a week, making it the highest-selling album by a K-pop female solo artist this year. In the U.S., it achieved the highest rank of 9 for a K-pop solo artist on Apple Music. Additionally, it claimed top spots on European and Chinese Apple Music charts, setting new records.

Critics are praising Jennie’s ability to integrate rap and vocals seamlessly. Music critic Jung Min-jae noted the trendy sounds and Jennie’s effort to maintain her unique style. Internationally, media like Pitchfork and NME highlighted the album’s depth.

Looking ahead, some critics express concern over managing expectations. Kim Sung-su views this album as Jennie’s peak. However, compared to Rosé and Lisa, who widened their fanbase with solo projects, Jennie’s approach is more introspective, sparking curiosity about her next move.
